Module: Re-imagining Who We Were

Eileen Kerr, Professor of History

Eva Mo, Professor of History

The concept of place is a central theme of this unit.  Students understand that they live in a geographic location, but lack the connection to place as more than physical location.  They also lack a sense of the historical place in which they live.  This unit is designed to build a bridge between the student’s own experience and the lives of people in the past who lived in THIS place.  As Tim Cresswell’s Place: An Introduction tells us, place is more than simple geography, it is an intimate component of culture and individual experience, that links people together through time and space.
